Rollerskating has had a long history in the world but probably saw an amazing peak in popularity in the mid 70's to early 80's. During that period, roller rink activity was heavy as was outdoor skating, particularly in places that had year-round great weather such as California.
Richard Humphrey’s roller skating journey began in 1979 in the San Francisco area. As with most that take up the activity, what started out as a fun form of exercise would become something Richard would turn into a life passion.
It is empowering and exciting to come across someone that sincerely loves what they do and is willing to share that knowledge with anyone that is interested enough to inquire, as I did of Richard. Since late January 2006, my family & I started going to the rink to get our roll on. My kids were mostly inspired to consider skating after seeing the movie “Roll Bounce” last September.
